Bromley Adult Education College (BAEC) recently partnered with BBC One’s Morning Live to showcase their lipreading classes, which are essential for individuals with hearing loss. The segment features Sam Baines, a deaf presenter who highlights the life-changing benefits of lipreading.
On September 17th, Sam attended one of BAEC’s lipreading classes, accompanied by a BBC film crew. Two learners were interviewed, and their experiences highlighted the class’s positive impact. With a simple lesson focused on practical techniques, the session showcased BAEC’s dedication to supporting the deaf community through fully funded (free) courses. This media spotlight further celebrates the college’s success in deaf education and empowers our learners to thrive.
Lisa, our tutor, knows how improving our lip reading can improve our everyday lives.
“When experiencing hearing loss, some people can feel isolated, suffer depression, and people can feel quite low, so if I can bring any part of that skill to people who are finding communication difficult, then that really is motiviaing for me as a tutor. What we can do in class is help you have the confidence and skills to go out and actually use Lip reading in your everyday lives.”
