We offer a range of non-accredited courses to help learners with learning difficulties or disabilities develop:
- skills for independent living
- skills for employment
- skills to improve confidence and communication
- English and maths skills
Classes are held at the Poverest Centre in Orpington.
Courses on offer include:
Art and Craft, Cookery, Dance and Drama, Gardening, Film Studies, Basic Computing, Healthy Lifestyle, Photography, English, Maths, Speaking with Confidence, Animal Care, Music
Courses are termly:
Term 1 – September-December 2019
Term 2 – January-March 2020
Term 3 – April-July 2020

Painting and Drawing - 2 days
On this course you will learn about the artist Georgia O’Keeffe and her style of art. We will do some fun drawing exercises before spending a longer time on a large painting inspired by Georgia O’Keefe’s work. We shall look at colours and colour mixing and work from real flowers. You will be able to make some cards from smaller prints of your painting.
Make your own herb garden - 2 days
Prepare, sand, paint small crate and stencil. Line the crate and plant herbs of own choice. Also make a small notebook with photos and information about herbs
Dancing through history to the present day - 1 day
Practice different dance styles , linking to Zumba and how dancing it is a good way to keep fit, linking to well being.
Drama workshop - 2 days
From page to stage, with a short performance at the end of day 2
Cook and Bake - 3 days
Learners will prepare and eat lunch and bake in the afternoon to take home.
London Visit - 2 days Wednesday & Friday
On Wednesday Learners will produce maps and details of free places to go that they can refer to in the future. On Friday Learners will take a trip out to a local historical landmark, making use of the materials produced on the Wednesday.
Introduction to Photography - 1 day
Develop basic photography skills and learn how to operate parts of the camera to take photos. Download your favourite photos to the computer and print them to take home.
The Internet and Microsoft Word - 1 day
Develop basic computer skills through surfing the internet for information about your favourite musician/pop star/group/actor or actress. Create a Microsoft Word document to take home using the information you have found out about your chosen person, and learn Microsoft Word skills Word Art, enter text,change text size, style and copy and paste.
